Welcome to the Pearl of the Orient!

I made it!

I am currently forcing myself to stay awake one more hour before I call it quits. I have been up since about 2 am Hong Kong time and I feel it.

So far the order of our trip is has been:
All of the teams met up in LAX and spent about 5 hours together before making our way to our gate.

We then boarded a plane bound for Hong Kong at the oh so unhappy hour of 1am Pacific Daylight Time. As miserable as all that sounds it was actually the perfect way to bond as a group. Three-fourths of our group will be staying at the same university lodging all summer so it was nice to get to know my roommates ahead of time.

In order to fight the urge to go to bed as soon as our plane landed at 6:30 am,  my instructors and support team have kept me and my fellow teachers busy with meals, team building workshops, or silly get-to-know-you skits (which thankfully will not make on to the world wide web).

I am exhausted so I will keep this post short and only one picture. I hope you can forgive any grammatical errors I'm not really very motivated to proof read.

Once again, and I promise this will be my last reminder,  please do not post any comments even though the feature is available.

I am so very excited to share my summer experiences with you. I already can see that I will learn about myself and how the Father wants to use me as well.

And with that, I bid you goodnight.

This is the view outside my living room. I'm not complaining.

Before the adventure begins...

Hello Everyone!

This is my first (and most likely only) post before I get on an airplane for Hong Kong in 8 days! But before my adventure begins I did want to at least explain how I found out about the opportunity of teaching English through my sending organization that has provided me the privilege of working with them in Asia this summer.

However, before I go further, I would like to add one quick request to all who read this blog during my trip this summer. Please do not leave any comments. This blog is meant to provide a window into my experience and perhaps even whet your appetite for Asia. But, for a variety of reasons I ask that you only window shop and do not publish any comments or links on this blog. If you would like to contact me with questions or notes of encouragement you may email or facebook message me privately and I will reply during my trip when I am able. My goal is to post 3-5 times a week to keep you all up to date and engaged in my fun experiences.

Now I would like to take a minute and share some information about the super cool organization that is making my journey to Hong Kong possible. Through my sending organization (whom I am purposefully choosing not to name), Christian college students are able to participate in a four-five week jam-packed teaching tour in one of four locations in Asia. What I especially love about this program is that it provides all the training and teaching resources I need to be able to efficiently and creatively organize lessons plans to present to my Asian students.

My sending organization also takes care of the messy paperwork that comes along with an international teaching position. Several months in advanced, my support team sends the paperwork to me, I fill it out, and then send it back and they take it from there.

There are also several programs for college graduates, that I would highly recommend, which provide more long-term teaching opportunities. If you are at all considering teaching in Asia or would like to learn more about the various programs my particular sending organization offers please feel free to email me and I will provide you more detailed information.

Well, that’s all I have for now. Next time you hear from me I'll be in Hong Kong!
